How To Choose Christian Wall Art For Your Living Room

Why Christian Wall Art?

Incorporating Christian Wall Art in your home is a wonderful way to express your faith, set the atmosphere and to edify your family. The fact that God’s word is living sets Christian wall art apart from all other types. The thought of just one scripture transforming one’s day or uplifting one's spirit, makes it more than just a piece of decor, but an option full of meaning and spiritually impactful.

You cannot go wrong with adorning your walls with the living word. It’s so important that God commanded it to the children of Israel. Deuteronomy 6:8-9 says, “You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates”

You see, God knew that it was so important for His word to be at the forefront of their minds. He didn’t want them to forget it. Having his word in a place where they could always see it helped them keep it in remembrance, hold it in their hearts, and ultimately live it out on a daily basis.

1. Deciding on the Scripture

When choosing Christian wall art for your home, you may want to take the time to give it some thought. There are many different options and so many wonderful scriptures to choose from. When selecting Christian wall art for our home, we wanted a verse that resonated with what our family was founded upon. We knew it was a place where we would spend a lot of time together as a family. We also knew that it was a place where guests, extended family and friends would meet together. So we chose a scripture about the enduring, unchanging truth of God’s word. “The grass withers, the flowers fade, but the word of the Lord endures forever. We also chose, Joshua 1:8This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

Both of these scriptures highlight the importance of God's word and its significance in our lives. We want this to be a message that permeates our hearts and one that is embedded in the hearts of our children. We knew these verses could also serve as great conversation starters with friends.

2. Selecting the Art

Next, you will want to choose the art that will best suit your space and that will compliment the scripture you have chosen. There are a number of ways this can be done. In this blog post, I will discuss two popular ways this is achieved.

Stand-Alone Scripture Art

Have the scripture beautifully laid out as a stand-alone piece. This form of scripture art is timeless, classic and very popular as it fits many different decor styles. When using the scripture as a stand-a-lone, usually two colors are chosen; one color for the main text and another for the background. If you are going for a classic look, it’s best to go with a dark font against a light background as shown in the photo below. Another popular option is the reverse; light lettering, against a dark background. You can also experiment with other color combinations, that compliment your space or infuse the room with a pop of color.

Picture Scripture Art

Pairing scripture with art happens to be one of my favourite ways to decorate living room walls. There are all sorts of images and artwork you can choose from. I love to infuse my room with nature. So, I will often opt for landscapes, trees, flowers, coastlines, sunrises, sunsets etc. You can choose paintings, or opt for photography. Both are great choices. Unlike the stand-alone scripture art, this option will require some more thought; as you may want to compliment the furniture, wall colour, rug etc. in your living room. I like to start with the colour scheme of my room and then select a piece that will tie the colours of the room together. If you are someone that doesn’t like a whole lot of colour and contrast then it is best to play it safe, opting for a picture with neutral colours that will pair well with your room. On the other hand, if you want to add some vibrance or you are looking for a statement piece, then start with your colour scheme and select a piece that will compliment those colours.

3. Deciding on Frames

Once you have selected your art piece, adding frames is a great way to finish the piece and enhance its overall appearance. At Forever Written, we offer a variety of frame colors and styles to suit many decor and personal tastes. Be sure to explore our collections. Here’s a detailed look at the different types of frames and their benefits:

Wood Frames

Types: Natural wood, stained wood, painted wood.

Benefits:

  • Classic Appeal: Wood frames offer a timeless look that complements both traditional and modern artwork.

  • Durability: High-quality wood frames are sturdy and long-lasting, providing excellent protection for your artwork.

Floating Frames

Types: Wooden floating frames, metal floating frames.

Benefits:

  • Modern Aesthetic: Floating frames create an illusion that the artwork is "floating" within the frame, adding a contemporary and sophisticated touch.
  • Highlighting Artwork: This style puts the focus on the art itself, making it ideal for pieces that deserve extra attention.
  • Depth and Dimension: Floating frames add depth to your presentation, creating a 3D effect that can make your artwork stand out.

Metallic Frames

Types: Gold and Silver Frames

Benefits:

  • Sleek and Elegant: Metallic frames offer a sleek, modern look that can enhance contemporary artwork and photography.
  • Lightweight: Metal frames are generally lighter than wood, making them easier to hang and move.
  • Durability: Resistant to warping and cracking, metal frames provide strong protection for your artwork.
  • Reflective Quality: The reflective nature of metallic frames can add a dynamic element to the display, catching and reflecting light beautifully.

Unframed

Types: Canvas Wrap, Paper Prints

  • Affordable: Unframed art is generally less expensive than framed pieces, making it an attractive option for those on a budget.
  • Sleek Look: Unframed art, especially canvas wraps, offers a clean and contemporary appearance that suits modern decor.
  • Focus on Art: Without a frame, the viewer’s attention is drawn directly to the artwork itself, emphasizing its beauty and details.
  • Personal Framing Choices: Opting for unframed art allows you to choose a custom frame later, giving you more control over the final look.

Creating A Meaningful Focal Point

In the end, choosing the perfect Christian wall art for your living room is a thoughtful process that involves considering your personal faith, the message you want to convey, and the overall aesthetic of your space. By reflecting on the spiritual significance, selecting a complementary style, and ensuring it harmonizes with your existing decor, you can create a meaningful and inspiring focal point in your home. Whether you opt for traditional religious imagery, nature-based or scripture-based designs, the right piece of Christian wall art can uplift your living room and serve as a daily reminder of your beliefs and values.
